Eating certain foods can trigger inflammation and increase joint pain. So you have to avoid these foods to treat arthritis and eliminate inflammation. Here are 8 foods you should avoid if you have arthritis or any joint pain.
1. Dairy products
Dairy products can cause arthritis pain because of their protein content. Some people are allergic to casein, a protein food in dairy. But if you’re not allergic or intolerant to casein, eating dairy products won’t do you any harm. In fact, some foods like yoghurt are rich in probiotics which reduce inflammation.
Even though tomatoes have many health benefits, which include fighting cancer, researchers have discovered that they trigger joint pain. You can continue eating tomatoes but make sure you use uric acid-reducing drugs.
3. Refined carbs and sugar
Eating high amounts of refined carbs or sugar can increase inflammation. This includes sugary beverages as well. Reduce the intake of candies, cakes, sodas and so on.
4. Fried foods
One study found that reducing the intake of fried and processed foods can reduce inflammation and increase the body’s natural defense. Eat more whole foods and cut the intake of processed or fried foods.
You probably know that alcohol has been linked to diseases like cancer. But did you know that frequent drinkers have a higher risk of developing arthritis? Research shows that alcohol causes inflammation, so stay away from it or drink moderately.
6. Salt and preservatives
Excessive consumption of sodium causes inflammation and joint pain. Note that sodium is everywhere, 75 percent of processed foods in the U.S contain sodium. So reduce the intake of table salt and processed foods.
7. Corn oil
Corn oil is found in most baked foods. Corn oil and other vegetable oils cause inflammation.
8. Foods with high omega 6s
Foods that have high amounts of omega 6s cause inflammation. These foods include, margarine, salad dressings, mayonnaise, sausages, and nuts.
