Aldi to Go Full Organic, Bans Pesticides and Rivals Whole Foods as Healthiest Grocery Store

This is a food chain that has made a name for itself recently as a supermarket selling products focused on the health. The reputation of a food-conscious-shoppers-go-to store is partially due to the low prices, as well as to their focus on health.

– Expanding the organic food brands, eliminating some artificial ingredients from the products and turning towards gluten-free items.

– Elimination of certified synthetic colors, partially hydrogenated oils, and MSG from the products labeled as their own (which make up about ninety percent of the sales).

– Expanding the sales of fresh and organic meat and products, such as the “Never Any!” brand of meats which do not contain any added hormones, antibiotics, animal byproducts, or any other additives.

– Expanding the SimplyNature line (a line that does not contain almost any artificial ingredients, more than 125 of these ingredients less than the other lines) and the gluten-free liveGfree brand.

Until now, they have been producing milk free of artificial growth hormones. Now, besides milk, they will start producing sour cream, yogurt, cottage cheese, and other dairy products free of artificial hormones.

– Starting to offer more high-end foods, including smoked salmon, artisan cheeses, coconut oil, and quinoa.

at the moment, there are 1,500 Aldi stores in the United States. The good news is that they plan to open 500 more by 2018. Considering their strong focus on health, Aldi are set to become the leader in health supermarkets.

The Business Insider has reported that this grocery chain is expanding organic food brands, getting rid of certain artificial ingredients from its products, and adding more gluten-free items hoping to attract more health-conscious buyers.

Systemic pesticides are used mostly in the last twenty years to control various pests, particularly sap-feeding insects, like aphids on cereals, and root-feeding grubs. One of the latest types of insecticide is the neonics, which belongs to this group of systemic pesticides.
